Unabridged Audiobook
This book was a wonder. It started slow, but after a bit, the story itself took over. The author’s life was fascinating. I knew little to no Russian history, but google was constantly at my fingertips, searching everything from photos of period clothing to definitions of vehicles and politely history. I enjoyed it very much, and recommend it to anyone who enjoys a memoir.
Somewhat interesting, but the ending is just strange. Reading okay.
I love women's diaries, and this autobiography, read by Expatriate ("of Bangor, Maine, if I recall) was top-notch. One of the best male narrators of a female's voice I've heard. Good show! This is a well written, gripping account of a young, idealistic Jewish woman whose farm family suffers misery in the pogroms. She becomes an impassioned member of the workers' movement, even cooperating in the murder of a local official who murdered her relatives. Her decades-long saga spans her youth on the farm, her move to the "big city" to read books and learn, and her adventures with her comrades (whether in collective action, in arms, in chains, or in death). Viva VoxLibris!
