Summary:

A mysterious island.

An abandoned orphanage.

A strange collection of very curious photographs.

It all waits to be discovered in Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children, an unforgettable novel that makes for a thrilling listening experience. As our story opens, a horrific family tragedy sets sixteen-year-old Jacob journeying to a remote island off the coast of Wales, where he discovers the crumbling ruins of Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children. As Jacob explores its abandoned bedrooms and hallways, it becomes clear that the children were more than just peculiar. They may have been dangerous. They may have been quarantined on a deserted island for good reason. And somehow—impossible though it seems—they may still be alive.

A spine-tingling fantasy, Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children will delight adults, teens, and anyone who relishes an adventure in the shadows.

Wasn't at all like I expected it to be. Should have read reviews before downloading. It's not horror. You can see everything coming from a mile away but it's still introduced as if we were supposed to be surprised. I thought the narration was cheesy, but it fits the book.

I wanted to like this more than I did. I was not aware of how young the narration is geared, and YA just really isn't my scene. Parts of the book were very entertaining, and Riggs writes well, but the overall sequence of events to me felt a little shallow, predictable, and cliche. I'm not usually the person who can see ten steps forward into a book's plot, but I really felt that way in this one. I liked the narrator when he wasn't doing accents, but I wish that he'd left well enough alone if he didn't 'have' the appropriate regional accents, the Welsh, the 'thick Irish', et cetera. The overwrought attempt made it difficult for me to connect to the other characters in the book.
