For all the horrors of war in the trenches, the author writes with humane and caring detail about his comrades, his joys and fears, his ghastly work and his survival. A remarkable tale of one man's honorable service under the worst of circumstances - highly recommend.

Really enjoyed listening to this book. History coming alive
Very good book. Very interesting accounts of the first world war in France. The lighthearted criticism of the English accents the American narrator does is quite humorous. Quite enjoyable and informative.
Very good book. Very interesting accounts of the first world war in France. Only criticism is the bad English accents the american narrator has. But still very enjoyable and informative.
More about daily life in the trenches and less the horrors of ww1, still a great read with lots of interesting details of the war. Definitely worth it, especially as it's free.
