Unabridged Audiobook
I haven’t finished but I can already relate to this book. So far it’s a great read.
Story was great. MS. Pat talked about her lack of ability to read. Those details did help me get through some of the sections where her reading her own story weren't as fluent as other readers. Her show that aired on BET was very similar to this biography. The book added another level to the shoe. I still loved hearing her story.
Although the narration was a little spotty the story was good and easy to get into.
I loved "Rabbit"s story telling, her voice and sense of humor while reading it aloud, as she describes a lifestyle of poverty, drugs, homelessness, uncertainty, verbal and physical abuse, and her emotional sexual assault/statutory rape experiences with such clarity. All the while, she demonstrates a sense of possibility, and a consistent responsibility toward her family in the face of all that, and more. She opens our eyes to the real life world of the underclass, where daily hunger and anxiety about safety, homelessness and survival are ever present, while people she meets are often unexpectedly helpful to one another in surprising and pragmatic ways. Pat's intelligence, humor, kindness and caring come through all the while. I'm so glad my book group found and introduced me to this book. A great "listen" in her own voice!
What an amazing true story. I cried, laughed, and was thoroughly entertained. I love that Mrs. Pat was the narrorator of her own story. I felt what she felt going through the struggles of her life. It was a very good read.
Very entertaining and very well written!
