A light breezy tread Uncomplicated. Not sure that Sebastian Rudd is one of John Grisham's best characters This book felt like on opening novel of a series. Just enough info and drama for you to consider a second book to read. Fingers crossed the second one is more complex and compeling.
I give the story 5 stars and the reader 5 stars. I give Grisham 2 stars for his complaining about the nation's "out-of-control" police forces. I could have tuned into the Big 3 network news to hear that bias. Leave that alone and let me read good fiction. I do not watch network TV because of its bias so I would have preferred Grisham not mess up my pleasure of reading.
I love John Grisham books, this one however is most definitely not one of my favorites. I didn’t enjoy the first person narration, the choppiness of the plot, or the cage fighting. The lead character is not very likable. If you’re just starting to read Grisham, skip this one and start with something else.
Enjoy the book it's not one of his best.
Good read. As a criminal defense attorney it realistic in some aspects and preposterous on others.
It was an above average book. Not one of his best, but not one of his worse either.
I liked the pace of the story. Grisham does a good job of making me "turn the page" if you know what I mean.
Good but not great it did not keep me involved in the changing plots.
Loved listening to this book!! Audiobooks is going to be a favorite in our family!!
Very good book. Once again John Grisham portrays a character that you can actually believe is an actual person, flaws and all.
I think some of the reviewers missed the point -- the main character Rudd was supposed to be flawed. You were supposed to view the others through his lense And yes, it seems Grisham does not think much of the police and their methods. This was a fast paced, easy read - not as complex as many Grisham novels but still a page-turner. I liked the format - several stories, woven together across the lives of the main characters. Good combination of crime, suspense and character development/life stories. And the narrator was good -- didn't overact it, and the pace was just right.
I found it enjoyable but definitely not his best work. I'll always read a Grisham book, but this one was just okay.
Enjoyed the characters! The book was easy to follow and made my afternoon walks more interesting.
This was my 1st Grisham book so I am not able to compare to others. It was very well narrated., a great read, great story lines, very well written, factual and entertaining. It kept me listening. It was recommended to me by someone that is a constant reader and I would recommend it to you.
Great book! Interesting, funny, entertaining, and witty. Truly enjoyed this book.
Very disappointed with this Grisham novel. The stories were choppy and characters lacked depth. This is so unGrisham-like.
A different structure than expected. Almost 6 short stories. It all came together at the end.
Looks like this rogue lawyer will be a continuing character. Maybe a little too similar to Lincoln Lawyer but a good read.
One of the most interesting books I've heard in a long time.
Loved all the intersecting cases and would love another like it
Interesting stories, but so incredibly misogynistic and racist that I almost sprained my eyes from repeated rolling. Just about every cliche in the world is here - the ball-busting lesbian ex-wife, the nubile young teacher, the one-dimensional model - and, course, regardless age, they're all "girls." The men are all cage fighters, veterans, or lawyers - unless they're not white, in which case they're criminals. Grisham can do better, and so can you. Don't bother.
This was my first attempt at an audio book. It was perfect entertainment as I ran long miles for marathon training "Rogue Lawyer" is Grisham at his best - loved it!
Not nearly as good as other Grisham books I've read. Felt like he threw some ideas down and somebody turned them into some vignettes. Narration was okay -- not great. Overall, a disappointment.
Not a typical John Grisham book. Nonetheless, it was a decent read. But if you are looking for a tried and true John Grisham, don't bother with this book.
This was not written by John Grisham. Terribly disappointing but I did finish it. I have read every book he has written.. 2 stars
Not one of his best ... Hard to keep interested ...
Wasn't much of a book. Very predictable characters. Not very interesting disappointing
I found this book a bit disjointed. Not at all what I expected from John Grisham.. Narration was what kept my interest in finishing the story.
I was very disappointed when I started the book. Was confused as to what the plot actually was because of the short stories in the beginning. It did get better, but all in all it was my least favorite Grisham book and I have read them all! It wasn't bad enough to make me quit Mr. Grisham all together, but it was bad enough to drop him a notch on my list of all time fave authors!
Excellent book!!! Can't wait to get to the next part!!!
The worst book I've read in 10 years! It's awful. No plot - just a series of short stories with this ridiculous "rogue" lawyer. It's just dumb. There is no way the same person wrote The Firm, The Pelican Brief and A Time to Kill. He should be ashamed of this effort. Narration was probably a part of it - the guy was just so cheesy!
Very disappointed not up to Grishams usual standard. No continuity!
Not exactly what I expected. I guess it's a story about a very dedicated lawyer who handled cases that were not too popular or safe for him. The ending wasn't what I expected, but it was an ending of his practice in that city or not, depending on how much he cared for the new women in his life.
The book was great until the end. Good action and suspense but abrupt ending.
Great read/listen! This was one of the best narration jobs I have heard.
This is not one of Grisham's best. The story line seemed disjointed. The ending was a let down.
The narrator fix a fine job.
This book skips around with the plot focus. It could almost be described as having three different stories included, two short, one longer. Somewhat different than Grisham's other writings. Still a good listen.
