Unabridged Audiobook
Nigel's Slater's voice - simple, heartrending, and truthful. This book is about him growing up and what food means to him in relation to family. The person he loved the most could not cook at all and he has the fondest and most gruesome memories of food during that time in his life. The person he hated the most was the best cook he knew and with whom he strives to compete to make the most delicious items. It is also the reason he launches himself out of the house and into the next part of his life as a cook. Bitter and sweet. I read it three times and bought more of his books because of Toast.
