Hiram M. Drache (1924-2020) served in the US Air Force as a combat navigator on bombing missions in the European Theater of Operations of World War II. He then earned degrees at Gustavus Adolphus College, the University of Minnesota, and the University of North Dakota. In 1991, Drache became Historian in Residence at Concordia College. He contributed to several books and wrote more than fifty articles, chiefly on contemporary agriculture and/or agricultural history, leading to a speaking career with over one thousand engagements in thirty-six US states, Canada, Australia, Germany, and Norway.
