Thornton W. Burgess (born January 14th,1874, died June 5th,1965) was born and grew up in Sandwich, MA. He was a naturalist and internationally recognized writer of 172 popular childrens' books and more than and 15,000 stories for daily columns in newspapers; which taught lessons of conservation and love of wildlife. Thortons series include "The Bedtime Story-Books", and the releated "Green Meadow Series" and "Mother West Wind Series". A museum dedicated to Mr. Burgess and his famous characters is located in Sandwich Village,
